Birds of 2013: Week 16

I did make it out to a wetlands area this week, which was nice. Often I have at least one of my kids with me when I go somewhere, so I probably don’t notice as many birds as I might if I were by myself. But, it is nice to go for a walk with my kids & I’m glad they enjoy it, too. This time I had my daughter & she’s a talker. There was a nice guy who didn’t want to interrupt my picture taking of a blue heron, but I told him to go ahead and start snapping away to get his own pics. If my daughter can blibber-blabber while I’m taking photos, I’m certainly not worried about somebody coming in and scaring away my prized bird.

We did notice one new duck on our walk: an Eared Grebe. It is a peculiar looking bird with red eyes.

About to go under for a swim.

Often I’d turn to catch another glance of the duck & this would be all I saw.

Catching a fish. For a little guy, he eats fairly big fish.

Great Blue Heron
We also saw a blue heron catch a fish. I’m sure it’s a similar type of fish the grebe caught, but looks much smaller in the heron’s mouth.

This duck was very interested in us. I’m guessing people have fed it.
