Water for Ducks title

We’ve had ducks for a few years now. We’ve tried a variety of water methods for bathing & playing. Some ideas have worked better than others.

KIDDIE POOL IN A DUG OUT HOLE = THUMBS DOWN

What I Liked: The edge sat at ground level making it easy for the ducks to get in.
What Didn’t Work: This was our first attempt at giving a pool to the ducks. What I didn’t realize at the time was just how filthy ducks get their water. The pool being down in a hole made it really difficult to dump out the dirty water & clean the pool. We no longer have this setup.

PLASTIC BARREL ABOVE GROUND = THUMBS DOWN

What I Liked: Not really anything
What Didn’t Work: It was way too small & too high off the ground. For a short time I thought it would be better than nothing. But, it really wasn’t. The barrel was above ground, but the shape of it still made it difficult to dump out the water.

BACK YARD PONDS = THUMBS UP

What I Like: The back yard ponds make the ducks happy. They swim & frolic & bathe. I would guess this is their favorite water method.
What I Don’t Like: Ducks are filthy, filthy pooping machines which is not good for the water quality of the pond. The ducks also devour my pond plants & fish.

KIDDIE POOL ABOVE GROUND = 2 THUMBS UP

What I Like: Being above ground makes it possible to dump out the water and easily refill it as often as needed. This is my favorite method.
