Victoria has been a place Farm Kid2 have talked about visiting many times. It just hasn’t worked out. So, I was excited it was one of our port cities.
2017 Cruise to Alaska: Ketchikan
Ketchikan was our 3rd and final town we visited in Alaska. The weather was fantastic and we had a nice walk through town. I wish, though, that we would have picked an excursion to go on, or at least have hiked a nearby trail.

The day after ogling at the wonder of Hubbard Glacier, we arrived in Sitka. We didn’t book an excursion, but prior to leaving home I jotted down a few places that we might like to visit. I was expecting this to be a relaxing, casual day. It was.

Seeing glaciers was primarily why I wanted to cruise to Alaska. We did see Mendenhall Glacier while in port at Juneau, which was fantastic. Seeing the Hubbard Glacier, though, was a different experience. We cruised into Yakutat and Disenchantment Bays, allowing us to view the glacier from the water.

Our first port of call was Juneau, Alaska’s capital city. Many things make this area interesting, but one thing that stands out to me is that due to the mountainous terrain there are no roads connecting Juneau to the rest of North America, even though the city is on the mainland. Cruising is a different type of vacation than I typically choose. I’m all about exploring the new places we are visiting. I’m a go, go, go, need a vacation after the vacation traveler. Cruising is too relaxing for my taste. But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy our trip to Alaska. The scenery was beautiful and our mobile hotel was more than accommodating.
