In 2006, we took a road trip to Minnesota to visit Farmer John’s mom. It was a 4300 mile adventure with a mom, dad, 3 year old boy, 9 month old boy and a yellow labrador… and we camped out of our dodge truck most of the way.
2006 Road Trip: Heading Home
As if we hadn’t traveled far enough, we chose not to take the quickest route home. We went north into Canada before heading west. The drive home was right around 2000 miles.

After our time in South Dakota we traveled into the state which was going to be our furthest destination east.

From Wyoming we traveled on into South Dakota, heading straight for the Black Hills.
2006 Road Trip: Badlands
We began our day at the KOA near Mount Rushmore and needed to get nearly all the way across South Dakota to DeSmet. So, our trip through the Badlands was pretty quick. It was a pretty amazing geological area full of buttes, pinnacles and canyons.

We couldn’t wait to see the magnitude of Mount Rushmore, so before settling into our campsite we drove to the memorial as the sun was going down.

From Idaho we headed into Wyoming and stopped at many stunning places across the state.
2006 Road Trip: Devils Tower
Devils Tower is a rock formation rising 867 feet out of a northeastern Wyoming prairie. It is sacred to many Indian tribes & was our first national monument.
2006 Road Trip: Yellowstone
Yellowstone is a natural wonder. It was our first National Park. It is fabulous.
2006 Road Trip: Grand Teton
This was my first time seeing the Grand Teton mountain range. I was not disappointed. It really was as beautiful, if not more so, than I imagined.
