Over the last few years weight has been creeping up on me. I gotta say, it really pisses me off. I used to go to the gym or take part in exercise classes. Since moving further away & having 3 kids, going to the gym is no longer realistic. I was hoping all the work it takes in owning 12 acres would be enough to
Oregon Fall Poultry Swap 2013
A friend & I spent the day at the Oregon Fall Poultry Swap. There were so many great vendors, friendly people & gorgeous chickens. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are planning on being vendors at the Spring Swap.
PNPA Spring Poultry Show 2013
The Pacific NW Poultry Association Spring Show was this last weekend. All 5 of us went & stayed nearly all day Saturday looking, learning & exploring. This was our first show. We were planning on going to the show just to check it out. But, last month when Farm Kid2 went to a clinic on how to show your bird he left there wanting to
Tulip Fest 2013
2013 was, of course, another beautiful year at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest. This was my first time here with my new camera. I liked my photos from previous years, but these are a bit better quality. I notice the flowers are sharper & the sky isn’t washed out.
Oregon Trail Heritage Garden
Since we are learning about the Oregon Trail, I thought it would be fun to check out The End of the Oregon Trail in Oregon City. Historically, this is an important spot. Pioneers traveling along the Oregon Trail ended their journey here – well kind of. Back in the days of the Oregon Trail the whole area would be full of covered wagons. From here
Amazon Flooded Forest at the Oregon Zoo
As part of our Amazon Rainforest study we visited the Amazon Flooded Forest exhibit at the Oregon Zoo. This is a section we don’t generally spend a lot of time exploring. So, this was a great excuse to look a little closer. I had Farm Kid1 answer a few questions such as Which animal is the most colorful? Why? Which animal is the hardest to
Tulip Fest 2012
The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm puts on a fantastic spring show each year. In 2012, we actually went on a sunny day. It was a little too nice. My kids started complaining that they were hot 10 minutes after we arrived. I told them we drove too far to just turn around & go home. I wasn’t going home until I saw every last flower!
Tillamook Forest Center
Farm Kid1 has visited the Tillamook Forest Center twice with Cub Scouts, but this was my first time going. I really enjoyed it. It’s a great discovery center & it’s free (donations accepted, of course). The museum has a ton of information on the Tillamook Forest including plants, animals & how people use the area.
Llama Mama
This is just too cute not to share. These two make my day every time I drive by. For at least 6 months this wild deer has been living with this llama. I never see a mother deer around. I don’t think there is one. It really seems as though the llama has taken on the unlikely role as mama to this deer. They are
Portland Home & Garden Show 2012
Farmer John asked if I wanted to go to the Home & Garden Show today. How could I say no to that? It was a fun way to spend the afternoon. He was busy drooling over solar panels, greenhouses & some sort of styrofoam wall support thing-a-ma-jigs. I came to see the gardens.
